What is Revenue Sharing?

Revenue sharing is the next evolution in college sports. Starting in July, schools will be allowed to directly pay student-athletes using a share of athletic department revenue.

This is how elite programs will separate from the rest, and Texas Tech is ready to lead again. NIL helped us build a very strong foundation. Revenue sharing lets us build something even bigger. Your continued support will ensure we remain at the forefront.

What does this mean for Texas Tech Athletics?

As part of the NCAA House settlement finalized on June 6, Texas Tech University is now permitted to share up to $20.5 million of its departmental revenue directly with student-athletes, beginning in the 2025–26 academic year. To support this transformational change, the Red Raider Club will be responsible for generating $14 million annually to help fund Texas Tech Athletics’ new revenue-sharing model. This funding will also support student-athlete scholarships, academic resources, professional development, leadership programming, nutritional offerings, and more. The remaining portion of the revenue-sharing commitment will be supported by University investment and additional Athletics-generated revenue streams. This new chapter marks a bold evolution in collegiate athletics - and Texas Tech is committed to leading the way in building a sustainable, student-athlete-centered future.

Where Are My Donations Going?

Your donations continue to directly support Texas Tech student-athletes and will continue to build championship rosters. That mission isn’t changing. Your donations make a significant impact.

Do I Need To Do Anything?

Nope. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Your donations, the lifeblood of Texas Tech NIL, will now fall under the Red Raider Club name starting in July. But your impact remains the same: You’re supporting student-athletes, building competitive rosters, and helping Tech win at the highest level.

Also, you don’t need to update anything in Givebutter - all recurring donations will continue through the Red Raider Club.

What About Tax Deductions?

Donations will be made to the Red Raider Club, via the Texas Tech Foundation, Inc., a Texas nonprofit corporation qualified under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  Your donations will remain 100% tax-deductible, just like they are today.*

*The Texas Tech Foundation, Inc. and Texas Tech Athletics may not provide legal or financial advice related to your taxes.  All donors should consult a tax advisor directly if they have questions about their unique tax situation.

How Exactly Will The Matador Club be Integrated into The Red Raider Club?

The Red Raider Club annual fund currently generates 28% of Texas Tech Athletics’ total revenue. This vital fund is currently made up of two components: seat contributions and the Excellence Fund. Together, they fully fund all student-athlete scholarships and essential resources, while also determining each donor’s Red Raider Club membership level.

Beginning July 1, the Excellence Fund will transition to The Matador Club. From that point forward, membership levels will be based on a combination of seat contributions and philanthropic gifts to The Matador Club.

As a part of this evolution, The Matador Club will take on an even greater role within the annual fund, serving as the central hub for all revenue-sharing contributions - including recurring annual and monthly gifts. This is where Red Raiders across the country will give to directly impact recruiting, retention, and the shaping of competitive rosters.

By evolving into a key driver of donor support, The Matador Club will carry forward the momentum of our successful NIL collective while becoming a cornerstone of our future-focused fundraising strategy. Maintaining this momentum is critical as we enter a new era of college athletics - one where Red Raiders have a powerful opportunity to help Texas Tech compete, win, and lead.

What is the New Red Raider Club Annual Fund Goal?

Starting in FY26 (September 1, 2025), the total Red Raider Club annual fund goal will be $36,250,000.

This ambitious target combines annual seat contributions with philanthropic gifts to the new Matador Club - now the home for all revenue-sharing and student-athlete support contributions.

Reaching this goal will take all Red Raiders giving at every level. Your support will directly shape rosters, fuel recruiting and retention efforts, and provide critical resources for our student-athletes.

Recurring gifts and broad alumni participation are essential. Together, we can sustain the momentum and power the next era of Texas Tech Athletics.

Will My Gifts Earn Red Raider Club Membership & Priority Points?

Yes!

As a continuing supporter of The Matador Club, you’re now officially part of the Red Raider Club family. This transition is seamless on your end, but the impact is even greater moving forward. All donations to the Matador Club (previously Excellence Fund) will count towards RRC Membership and earn Priority Points.
